Dog Toys: How to Choose Based on Breed and Age

A toy that is unsuitable for your dog's breed or age can be dangerous or ignored. Here's how to choose the right toy based on your companion's profile.

Toys for high-energy breeds

Border Collie: advanced food puzzles, frisbees, fetch balls. Husky: thick, almost indestructible natural rubber toys. Avoid toys that are too simple for intelligent breeds – they will quickly get bored with them.

Toys for brachycephalic breeds

French Bulldogs and Pugs tire quickly. Prioritize soft chew toys, easy puzzles. Avoid prolonged fetch sessions which can cause hyperthermia.

Toys by age

Puppy 2-6 months: soft rubber teething toys, cotton ropes. Avoid hard bones. Adult 1-7 years: vary types, practice rotation. Senior 8 years+: soft and light toys, easy-level puzzles to maintain cognitive activity without physical exhaustion.
